Subdivision Associativity

Demonstrates the use of the Make Associative option in the Subdivision to NURB tool of Shark FX 9. Shows how a mesh can be used as a base feature combining the benefits of polygon and precision modeling.

Model To Sheet Layers

In this short video we show how to track down a layer from an item within a draw view. It can get challenging with lots of layers.

What's New in 9

Overview of the new features introduced in ViaCAD Pro 9 that include:
• Quad mesh & subdivision tools
• Woodworking joints
• 3D arrays

ViaCAD 2D3D : Convert To Solid

At $99, ViaCAD has some surprising horsepower. In this video, a STL file of a snowflake is converted into a precise solid and personalized with modeling operations such as shell and protrusions.

Woodworking Overview

Demonstration of the woodworking features that include:
• Dado
• Miter
• Tongue and Groove
• Rabbet

Subdivision Modeling

The subdivision tools are used to modify a block into a organic shaped spoon.
• Quad mesh
• Subdivision tools
• Gripper modifications
• STL export for 3D printing

Defeature Part

Demonstrates how to use the direct editing tools of ViaCAD to remove features from a part:
• Delete Face from Local Operations Palette
• Deep Select and Delete Key For Fast Remove

Creating Tangent Lines and Circles

Demonstrates how to create:
• Line Tangent to Two Circles
• Circle Tangent to Two Curves

Creating 2D Drawings from 3D

The ViaCAD products have the ability to create 2D drawings from 3D models.  This demonstration shows:
• Automatically create a 2D drawing from 3D parts
• Add detail and section views
• Add scaled regions to your drawing for printing

Create a CutList

Creating a good cutlist for a woodworking project can take some time, but will ultimately save you more time and money when it comes to purchasing  your material. In this demonstration, we explain how to make a cultist using the Bill of Material feature and CutList attribute.   The cutlist attribute will help identify parts of the same length, width, and thickness.  After you add  your cutlist attributes, ViaCAD will generate a Bill of Material listing all the common parts.  With cutlist  in hand,  you can now go to the lumberyard confident that  you get the correct amount of material for your project.

Tracing an Image with ViaCAD

Demonstration video showing how to trace a part from an image using the following steps:

1. Find a known distance in the image.
2. Create a line along the known distance.
3. Create a second line that represents the actual model distance.
4. Use the scale command to scale the image to the desired model scale.

Import Text from Illustrator

Many designers use Adobe Illustrator in their tool chest. One common use is o create text in AI using the advanced text tools such as kerning and tracking, and then import into ViaCAD. Once in ViaCAD you can extrude the text paths into 3D and perform operations such as blending and chamfer of the edges.

Moving Spline Points

There are several ways to modify spline poitns with ViaCAD. This video shos two methods:
• Nudging with Arrow Keys
• Gripper

Trim

The Trim tool is used to re-limit curves to other objects. Several useful tips related to the Trim tool are:

• Press the Shift Key to extend the number of objects selected
• Press the Control Key (Option Key Mac) to extend the curve to a selected boundary
• Press the Control Key (Option Key Mac) to keep the selected curve after the trim is performed

Another useful tip when using the Trim tool is using it in conjunction with Select All. Selected objects not only serve as a trim boundary, but can be trimmed as well depending on where you click with the mouse.

Push/Pull

The Push/Pull tool searches for closed 2D regions and allows you to dynamically extrude the region into 3D.  You can also move the cursor over existing faces to add or remove material.   An additional feature allows you to sketch curves onto faces, which will enable you to move new regions.

Direct Edit with The Gripper

The Gripper features have been extended with V8 to allow direct editing of faces.  Direct face editing includes translate, rotate, and scale of faces.  Additionally, you can  now create arrays of faces using the Gripper.

Architectural Tools

3D attributes for walls, doors, and windows. Three new tools were also added that allow you to quickly create 3D walls, slabs, and hip roofs.

LogiCursor Snaps

LogiCursor has been enchanced to support inference of parallel, coplanar, and cylindrical face alignments.

Concept Explorer Filters

Concept Explorer provides options to control what is displayed in the feature list including object type and selection status.

Save To Symbol Library

ViaCAD makes it easier to create custom symbol libraries with the new Save to Symbol Library tool located in the File menu bar.

Modeling a Snowboard

ViaCAD Pro provides surface and solid modeling tools. This demonstration creates a snowboard using surfaces and solids. A bitmap image is also used to provide guidance for construction curves.

Modeling a Bolt

This tutorial demonstrates how you can use ViaCAD Pro to create a bolt. Tools demonstrated include :

  • Extrude

  • Sweep Along Path

  • Protrusion

  • Intersection Boolean

  • Model To Sheet for a 2D Drawing

2D to 3D Associativity

This demonstration shows how to construct a 3D frame from a 2D profile. Additionally, this video demonstrates some simple associativity between the 2D geometry and the 3D solids facilitating rapid modifications.

Solid Modeling Blend/Fillet

ViaCAD and Shark use the Dassualt/Spatial modeling kernel which provides support for excellent blending features. Check out some of the challenging blends ViaCAD and Shark can tackle in this video.

The Gripper

This feature provides an intuitive graphical widget that attaches to your objects allowing you to dynamically move, rotate, and scale objects in 2D or 3D. In addition to freely moving parts around, the gripper provides a data entry field to precisely move, rotate, and scale parts.

Inspector

Entity attributes are now consolidated into one easy to use graphical user interface. Quickly inspect, modify and set the values for pen, fill, text, and dimension attributes. Use the Inspector to set pen weight, styles, and arrowheads. The Inspector can also be used to access text or dimension font size, type, and style attributes.

Custom Tool Palettes

Create palettes using your favorite combination of tools. Use this new feature to customize ViaCAD Pro for your specific workflow process. Drag and drop your favorite tools to a custom palette where you specify the icon size, mxn arrangement, and orientation.
